Geneseo Community Players Announce Auditions for Summer Musical Classic: "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" The Geneseo Community Players (GCP) are ready to take flight this summer! The Players are thrilled to announce open auditions for their upcoming production of the beloved musical classic, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” Based on the 1968 film of the same name, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" was inspired by the novel “Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car” by Ian Fleming, better known as the author of 14 books about the secret agent James Bond. The music and lyrics for the beloved 1968 film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and stage musical were written by the renowned songwriting duo Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. After a successful 2002 premiere on London’s West End, the show opened on Broadway in 2005 and was lauded as an old-fashioned crowd-pleasing family show that was witty enough for adults. Selected for its broad, family-friendly appeal and its unique ability to foster intergenerational casting, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" aligns perfectly with GCP’s mission to provide high-quality theatre while nurturing artists of all skill levels. Robust performance opportunities for adults (Caractacus, Truly, the Baron and Baroness), comic actors (Boris, Goran, the Childcatcher), and children (Jeremy and Jemima), as well as an ensemble of inventors, soldiers, and candy makers, are open to the community. Director and choreographer Sophie Houseman will helm this summer’s production. Houseman is an experienced local director, performer, and choreographer with a strong background in both community and semi-professional theatre. York Central School music teacher, Devin Vogel, will serve as musical director. Auditions will be held at St. Michael’s Church, 23 Main Street, Geneseo, NY. Initial auditions will be held on May 23rd & May 24th at 6:00 PM, with callbacks on May 26th. GCP encourages youths ages 7-8 (with parent/guardian participation and supervision) and others ages 9 through adult to try out.
